Seasonal work in Lithuania (2026): permit, rules, current jobs
🟢 Updated: 2026-11-03 · 8
Citizens of EU/EEA countries can take seasonal jobs without a permit. Citizens of other countries need a seasonal work permit from the Employment Service (UŽT) – a separate route from the regular work-based residence permit. Below are the rules from the Employment Service page and the order A1-253, plus current adverts from our database.
In short
- A permit is issued only to third-country citizens (not EU/EEA) and only for jobs on the seasonal jobs list.
- It is valid for up to 6 months within any 12 months – in one stretch or several shorter ones.
- The employer registers the vacancy with the Employment Service and files the permit application within 1 month after the vacancy advert expires. The Employment Service checks that no suitable local worker is available.
- The foreigner’s main place of residence must be abroad.
- Regular (non-seasonal) jobs need a work-based residence permit instead – see Work permit for foreigners.
Conditions the employer must meet
- A direct written employment contract with the worker, in Lithuanian and in a language the worker understands; its term equals the permit term.
- Housing of at least 7 m² per adult, registered in the real-estate register for at least the permit term.
- If the employer provides housing, rent may be at most 30 % of net pay and may not be deducted automatically.
- The information sheet about the job is handed to the worker in a language they understand; the employer reports the employment to Sodra.
Which jobs are “seasonal”
The list (order A1-253, summary edition from 2026-10-01) is by activity (EVRK) code. It covers:
- crop growing (annual and perennial crops), plant propagation, mixed farming, harvest and crop-support services;
- livestock farming incl. dairy cattle and feeding;
- forestry and logging, gathering wild non-timber products, peat extraction;
- food production (division 10);
- road construction (42.11);
- accommodation and catering (section I);
- film and TV production (59.11, 59.12) and other building and industrial cleaning (81.22).
Check the exact code of the employer’s activity in the order – the list works by the activity, not by the title of the job.
Visa, fees and timing
| Item | Rule |
|---|---|
| Stay up to 90 days | Schengen visa (where you are not visa-free) |
| Stay over 90 days | National visa (D) |

| Processing | 7 working days (4 for a repeat application) |
| Extension | Apply at least 20 days before the permit expires |
Pay and hours
Seasonal work is done under an employment contract, so Lithuanian minimum wage, tax and Sodra contributions apply. See your take-home pay in the salary calculator. Check the contract for pay per hour/month, working hours and whether accommodation is free or charged.
Before you apply
- Ask the employer for the contract draft and housing address before travelling.
- Never pay an intermediary for a “guaranteed seasonal permit”: the employer starts the procedure with the Employment Service.
- Prepare a short CV: see CV and cover letter templates and interview questions.
